Everything in one visit.

Every dental cleaning at CentralPet Express Care is a complete procedure — not a partial cleaning with surprise add-ons. Here is exactly what your pet gets.

Full-mouth X-rays

Digital X-rays of every tooth, including the roots. This is the only way to find disease that is invisible to the naked eye.

Oral exam under anesthesia

A thorough evaluation of every tooth, the gumline, and soft tissue — only possible once your pet is safely sedated.

Ultrasonic scaling

Removes built-up tartar and plaque both above and below the gumline — where the real damage happens.

Polish

Smooths tooth surfaces after scaling so plaque has a harder time reattaching — extending the results of the cleaning.

Treatment recommendations

After reviewing X-rays, our doctor walks you through findings and options before any additional treatment is done.

Extractions are not included in the base price. If a tooth needs to come out, our doctor will review the X-ray findings with you first. You will always know the cost and have the chance to ask questions before anything is added to the procedure.

It is not just about clean teeth.

Dental disease is the most common health condition in adult dogs and cats — and most pet owners do not realize it until problems become serious. The bacteria in an unhealthy mouth do not stay in the mouth. Over time, they travel through the bloodstream and can damage the heart, kidneys, and liver. A dental cleaning is genuinely one of the most impactful things you can do for your pet's overall health.

Why we recommend pre-op bloodwork.

Any procedure involving anesthesia carries some risk. Pre-operative bloodwork lets us catch hidden conditions before they become problems under sedation — and allows us to customize your pet's care plan. We recommend it for every dental procedure, especially for senior pets or those with existing health concerns.

Organ function

Liver and kidney values help us choose the safest anesthesia protocol.

Blood cell counts

Screens for infection, anemia, or inflammation that may not be visible yet.

Clotting ability

Platelet levels confirm your pet can properly manage any minor bleeding.

Hidden conditions

Even healthy-looking pets can have underlying conditions. Bloodwork finds them early.

Pre-op bloodwork is recommended but not required. Our team will discuss it with you during scheduling and answer any questions you have.

Dental care FAQs.

Answers to the questions we hear most often from pet owners in St. Pete.

Does my dog or cat really need to be put under anesthesia?

Yes — and for good reason. Pets do not cooperate for thorough dental cleanings the way humans do. Anesthesia allows our team to safely clean every tooth surface, probe below the gumline, and take full-mouth X-rays without stressing your pet or missing problem areas. Anesthesia-free dental cleanings are cosmetic only and do not address the real source of dental disease.

Is anesthesia safe for my pet?

Modern veterinary anesthesia is very safe, especially when pre-op bloodwork is done beforehand. Our team monitors every patient closely throughout the procedure. We tailor anesthesia protocols to your pet's age, size, and health status. For older pets or those with health concerns, pre-op bloodwork is especially important — it helps us identify any hidden conditions before we proceed.

How often should my pet get a dental cleaning?

Most vets recommend once a year for dogs and cats as a general guideline. Smaller breeds tend to accumulate tartar faster and may benefit from more frequent cleanings. Your pet's individual condition and at-home care habits also play a role. Our doctor can give you a personalized recommendation after your pet's exam.

What if my pet needs a tooth extraction?

Extractions are not included in the base cleaning price. If X-rays show that one or more teeth need to come out, our doctor will review the findings with you before proceeding. You will get a clear explanation of what was found, why extraction may be needed, and what the additional cost will be. Nothing extra happens without your approval.

How do I know if my pet needs a dental cleaning?

Common signs include bad breath, yellow or brown buildup on the teeth, red or swollen gums, chewing on one side, pawing at the mouth, or dropping food. That said, many pets with significant dental disease show no obvious signs at all — which is exactly why X-rays matter. If your pet has not had a dental cleaning in the past year, it is worth scheduling an evaluation.

What should I do to prepare my pet for the procedure?

We will walk you through everything when you schedule. In general, most pets need to fast (no food) for 8 to 12 hours before anesthesia. Water is typically fine up until a few hours before the procedure. We will confirm the specific fasting instructions for your pet based on their age and health status.
